Thanks for joining the party! Final Fantasy Quest is a blog dedicated to recording my adventures as I play through each of the core Final Fantasy games in order. I'm a lifelong fan of the series, and after several years of not gaming, the recent Square iOS game, Chaos Rings, renewed my love for the series.

Here you'll find recap reviews as I complete each title, and along the way, I'll occasionally post screenshots and ramblings.

    Aht Urhgan Update

Been slowly continuing ToAU missions, since i’ve been just so busy-wusy with rl and joining groups in various end game-ish content.

I’m learning more about what it takes to make a Mythic weapon, which seems cruel, but at the same time I maintain my stance that Treasures of Aht Urhgan really feels like an entirely separate continent without the training wheels of fields of valor manuals, or atma, or pixies flying around to randomly cure you.

Just traveling to where Medusa lives felt like a real adventure- Final Fantasy style. People gathered in Nashmau, the abandoned city now inhabited by Qiqirn (a race similar to Freya from FFIX). Not everyone had the ‘staging point’ warps unlocked, so they had to take a boat there. Even at level 99, the regular mobs like imps will still aggro with sneak and invisible applied.

Another fun tidbit, is from time to time the beastmen in Aht Urhgan invade Ahl Zahbi, and when it is the lamia, Medusa appears in the city and not in her lair.

This kinda stuff really really adds to the lore and excitement in FFXI, and is reminiscent of the old NES or SNES games, creating unique stories and adventures, and is a fresh break from the conditions in places like Abyssea, where you usually just have to have a couple items to spawn a notorious monster. Fun stuff.
